Nina, Peter and Eli opened the doors to Studio Hop in November of 2000. They have been sharing their love for community, art, fine crafts, and design ever since. Studio Hop is carefully curated and constantly changing and evolving, showcasing many local artists as well as those from around the world. Visit Studio Hop and you will find fine hand crafted jewelry and custom jewelry designs for everyday, weddings or special occasions; fine crafts including: ceramics, wood, glass, and textiles; fine art including: paintings, collages, photographs and sculptures. You can also find hand made designer clothing and accessories, mid century modern and period furniture and jewelry, and handmade olive oil based skin care products. Wow!
Fun fact: When it came time to name the gallery, Nina suggested the name that Eli as a young child had given their at-home “Studio Shop.” Eli had a propensity for words and language and changed their at-home “Studio Shop”, a place where they created art and woodworking, to “Studio Hop,” as it was a fun place to be and the new name sounded more fun to five year old Eli. Two years later while plans were in the works to open the gallery, they all agreed the name “Studio Hop” and its connection to creativity, growth, change and fun was perfect!

As the result of a strategic planning process focused on capacity-building, long-term sustainability, and the transition from an artist-led improvisational activity into a cultural institution, WaterFire Providence purchased the Center in 2012 and began fundraising and rehabilitation for the vacant, historic, industrial building in the underserved Olneyville/Valley neighborhood of Providence. Initially built in 1929 for the US Rubber Company as a multi-purpose manufacturing facility, WaterFire Providence completed the renovation of the WaterFire Arts Center in May 2017. The 37,000 square foot multi-use arts center has become WaterFire’s first permanent home in the community.
The WaterFire Arts Center serves as their headquarters and multi-purpose arts venue, as well as a social enterprise platform strengthening the organization’s long-term financial sustainability. One of the unique features of the WaterFire Arts Center is the Main Hall which provides 15,000 square feet of uninterrupted exhibition, performance, and production space with a 40-foot ceiling.
While Rhode Island is rich with cultural assets and resources including art museums and galleries, there is no contemporary art center in the state that can host large installations or surveys. The WaterFire Arts Center is a flexible venue that fills that void. Work exhibited in the WaterFire Arts Center aligns with WaterFire Providence’s mission to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement, and creatively transforming the city while valuing contributions of all artists, reflecting the true diversity of the contemporary art field, and highlighting women, artists of color, and underrepresented practitioners. The WaterFire Arts Center will further its agenda of providing arts and cultural opportunities and experiences for all, regardless of social, cultural, or economic background.

Anahid Ypres Art Studio has both in progress works as well as finished works of art. Get a glimpse of the inner workings of an artist’s studio! Below is Anahid’s artist statement.
Born in Iran in 1984, raised within an Armenian family, I grew up in a multicultural environment. Moving back to Armenia as a teenager, I then quickly fell in love with arts in general. With the precious support from my family, I attended the prestigious Panos Terlemezyan State academy of Fine Arts of Yerevan.
Living abroad also helped adding layers of culture to my already complex background: first France where I met my husband, and now United States. I now have a studio in the historic district of college hill in Providence Rhode Island where I spend most of my creative time. Throughout the years, oil and acrylic have been a natural answer to my art experience, but constant curiosity and trials in new materials made me encounter and study clays and glazes. This close-to-alive chemistry allows me to give my vision a new life, in different forms and dimensions. I often rely on my instincts to choose the material and mediums for my work. My work is mostly abstracted visions of daily life, sometimes landscapes, sometimes figures and other times distorted objects. I like to use vibrant colors and exaggerate the beauty of everyday things. I like my viewers to wander through my paintings, find something that no one else did and keep searching.

Chazan Gallery at Wheeler is a nonprofit artists' space which exhibits a wide range of contemporary work by artists living or working in the area. Providence is a city with a very large community of artists, and the gallery provides an excellent space for these artists to exhibit their work. Through an open jury process, the gallery shows work from among the strongest artists in the area in a series of varied and interesting exhibitions each year. Bill Van Siclen, the former Providence Journal’s art editor, has called the gallery "a model of quality and consistency. The artists have been among the best the state has to offer."
Located on the East Side of Providence near Brown University and RISD, the gallery is totally supported by Wheeler School, a gift to the Providence arts community from the school. The present gallery was completed as part of the school's new library building in 1990. In 2007 Wheeler re-named its gallery in recognition of Dr. Joseph Chazan's long-standing and generous commitment to the arts at Wheeler.
The Wheeler School was founded in 1889 by Mary C. Wheeler, an American Impressionist painter. The gallery has always been an important teaching resource for the school and an extension of its strong art program. Students view the exhibitions, write about the shows and have the opportunity to meet the artists during gallery talks. The exhibitions are an integral part of the School's art curriculum and are also well attended by classes from RISD, Brown, and RIC, as well as the larger arts community in the Providence area.
